Some thing a little different

With the cost of weddings in the U.S. averaging $28,000, finding ways to help cover the cost is an essential part of the planning process. What better way to raise funds than with a side gig? One in three Americans is busy building a part-time job, so join the movement and start saving for that dream wedding today.
Assess Your Skills
Identifying a good side hustle starts with knowing your marketable skills. Maybe you’re good at coding, writing content, hair dressing or home cooking?
Some ways to assess your skills include:
- What’s your personality? Tests like Myers-Briggs or DISC can help you uncover parts of your personality, such as your interests, motivations, and personality traits.
-
Get feedback: Coworkers, former or present managers, and others in the workplace who are familiar with your performance can help provide you with honest feedback.
-
Don’t forget soft skills: You might have a clear sense of your hard skills, but what about soft skills such as collaboration or creativity?
Potential Side Jobs
Useful skills can be monetised. If you have a skill or talent in a particular area, whether it’s writing, IT management, or piano, it can be used to help others. Tutoring or consulting fees can range from $15 to more than $150 per hour, depending on the industry.
Other potential side hustles:
- Market research
- Delivery driver
- Selling used goods online
- Virtual assistant
- DIY decorations: wooden flower arrangements, signs, homemade perfumes
- Airbnb-ing a room in your home
- Being creative eg bridal hair and make-up
Start Your Own Business
Whether creating a business for lifestyle coaching or establishing yourself as a freelance writer, forming a business entity can be a good idea for several practical reasons, like tax benefits. While there are several different types of business entities, the LLC (?) is among the simplest to start and manage when it comes to a side gig.
The first step you need to take to start a business is to think of a good name. You want to ensure it isn’t already in use, so search thoroughly to ensure what you’ve picked is unique. You’ll also want to familiarize yourself with the requirements and filing fees in your state.
Don’t Forget to Set Goals
The key to getting the most out of your side hustle is to set financial goals for yourself that you can frequently revisit to gauge their attainability. Some things to consider:
- Available time: Be realistic about how much time you have to allocate towards your side gig.
- Know the market: Are there ten other people living in your area selling the same type of item as you? Can you reach people online? Knowing the market gives you a baseline.
- Find your competitive advantage: Map out your target couples, look at who else is delivering a similar product or service, identify what the couple receives and at what price and then consider how you are going to deliver other benefits to couples.
Once your gig is up, running and delivering results rewarding yourself is important
Go out for a meal or buy yourself that new pair of jeans or book you’ve been eyeballing. Whatever it is, rewarding yourself when you hit small or mid-sized goals can take you a long way in terms of motivation and forward momentum.
Give Yourself Time
A wedding that’s two months away won’t give you much time to raise any significant cash or build your side hustle in a meaningful way. So start planning today, giving yourself at least six to 12 months to build the capital you need for the wedding you want.

I think rewarding yourself needs to be separated off from here, so you need a third point e.g. what about a competitive advantage? See my current posts on Instagram @theweddingowl
